Brant Point Lighthouse is one of three lights on Nantucket, and it's likely the most photographed. Most everyone snaps a picture or two of this little gem as they pass by on the ferry into the harbor. The Coast Guard still maintains the light and it's somewhat difficult to shoot because the beacon is always on at night and the camera senses the red better than our own eyes. When trying to capture the stars above you must use a relatively long exposure and the camera really picks up the red. I had to desaturate parts of this photograph in post to remove some of the strong red that remained in the photo. Also, the night we were shooting there were some really strong floodlights from the port hitting the more famous side of the light, that which has the walkway to the front door. We had to shoot on this side to be able to capture the stars above with a long exposure. Had we gone to the other side, the brightness of the floodlights would have wrecked our exposure.
