Bakers Island, MA

Bakers Island, MA

We found this interesting angle to the lighthouse located off Salem, Massachusetts. Owned by the Essex Heritage Commission, the island and lighthouse is on a private island and is closed to the public. The Commission was kind enough to help getting us to the island and we spent several hours photographing from different angles. This is one of the last taken and is one of the most interesting. Using two LED lights on stands, the lighthouse and crew quarters were lit separately from the foreground which was light-painted with a handheld flashlight. Despite the light pollution from the towns nearby as well as from Boston, the Milky Way makes a dim appearance in the upper right of the frame. We also spent a considerable amount of time waiting for planes heading into Logan to clear the frame as the island is directly in the flight path.
